Game on! - First Zone Mortalis game!

Had a couple of really fun games today against Helge - Tried playing on my Zone Mortalis for the first time, Death Guard vs World Eaters, using Codices Chaos Marines and Khorne Daemonkin.

Second game, victory went to Helge after I won the first game.

Golesh the Everliving vs Khârn the Betrayer

I allowed Helge to use Khârn and a Contemptor Dreadnought in his Codex, just because I think it fits the army. Something we found amusing was that both our armies were based alike and matched the floor tiles of the Zone Mortalis.

Expect more gaming pictures in the future!

Cheers!

WIP - Zone Mortalis

This week I've been working hard to get my Zone Mortalis finished.

Sadly, it's not finished yet, but the basework is done and all 16 plates are up to the same standard. The board is at the level where I am able to play a game on it without feeling ashamed.
So my friends, write me on Facebook! I'm available for a fight this Sunday!

Cheers!

Happy New Year!!

A happy new year to you all! Hope your year is filled with wonderful new figures!

I've been working a bit on my Death Guard - it's time for some changes.
First of all, the figures needs 32mm bases, and secondly, I'm not very satisfied with the white armour. It's simply too bright.

Left: This is how the army currently looks.
Centre: This figure has been washed with a mix of Agrax, Athonian and Nuln Oil, thinned out with water and Lahmian Medium.
Right: The washed figure has been placed on a 32mm base.

I can clearly see the difference, and I intend to do this process on all my Death Guard figures, including tanks and walkers!

In other news, I just received my other 8 tiles of Zone Mortalis from Forge World!
As I write this, I have already primed 50% of the tiles, the second set still needs to be washed.
Back to the desk!

Cheers!

Zone Mortalis - Who's up for a game!?

So I've been talking about it for ages, even tried to build my own version of it, and now I finally got myself a Zone Mortalis from Forge World!!

I started small, only got 1 of each of the 2 sets, so now I have 8 different tiles. Eventually I will add 1 more of each so I can play on a 2' * 2' table. I also got a Large blast door and 2 small ones, will add more of these when I get more tiles.

And as I mentioned in the last post, I have the Armies on Parade to focus on, so I won't be able to do anything with these toys before Saturday. I haven't even washed the resin!

Considering the number of ways you can make a table, I made small paper tiles that I will use to plan the layout of the battlefield before I set up the table.

I really look forward to play a lot of small games, tons of infantry and close combat!
Who's up for a game!?

Cheers!

Zone Mortalis - Part 4: Details and improvement

Last saturday I was hosting a game of Zone Mortalis Kill Team at my local Games Workshop store. I had designed a special mission, where the objective was to destroy a chaotic object, and as secondary objective try to kill as many Chaos Space Marines as possible.

The event was well recieved; I got a lot of compliments on my gaming table, and people thought the mission was refreshing. The staff at Games Workshop want me to host more games in the future, and I'm not one to turn that opportunity down!

All the kind words got me inspired to add more details to my Zone Mortalis table. First up, the board looks nice, but as Mats at GW Oslo said, it looks naked. I couldn't agree more, so I made a schablon to drybrush tiles on the floor. Not quite what I had in mind when I first made the table, but the result looks good!

I always wanted doors for my table, but making blast doors for a dungeon doesn't fit what I had in mind. Also, I couldn't make small doors and a piece of wall since you have to remove the entire wall whenever someone opens the door, I don't want the walls to get scraped and so on. But in the end, I made a couple of doors that will stay in place when I set up the terrain. I made some extra rules for the doors: All units (that fit) can move through the doors, but never draw line of sight!

No dungeon is complete without torches and an arcane library of course. The torches will cast a glowing effect on the walls, just like the candle. I already made the glowing effect on the wall, but the furniture aren't painted yet (nor glued in placed either).

And here are some of the disturbing details I mentioned in the last post. I figure that this fortress is "alive" in a sense. The chaos cult has filled the walls with bodyparts and blood, and the weak barrier between our universe and the Warp has made the fortress into a semi-living fortress. Daemonic flesh is pressing out from the walls, and eyes grow in dark corners. I imagine that sorcerers who can communicate with the entity use the eyes for surveilance. Funny thing is, that everyone who saw the eyes at Games Workshop called them "primitive surveilance cameras".

I haven't found a place for this piece yet, but I'm going to place it half-way inside a wall, to represent grenades going off, taking off pieces of the wall to reveal the horrifying truth about the fortress.

And currently, besides improving the tiles, I have started making a "Mysterious 10th tile".
When I got the wood tiles, I ordered 9, but the carpenter who made them gave me the 10th tile free of charge. For long I have just had the 10th tile lying around, but I just found a good way to use it...

I'm not telling you. I'll show you soon enough.

Until then.
Cheers!

Zone Mortalis: Part 3 (teaser)

I decided to snap out of it and continue with my Zone Mortalis board.
Textured and sprayed in some places, and I even added some disturbing details that I won't show today.

Now only painting the board remains. Spray painting will make the work easier. Think I will use Army painter sprays, plus I have an old can of roughcoat lying around. Back to work!

Until next time!
Cheers!

Zone Mortalis - Part 2: Doomed project?

Since last post I've been working a lot on my Zone Mortalis table. I used several modular movement trays as floor tiles.

I made some brick wall pieces to get more details.

I made some doors that are removable.

I used filler to give texture to the walls, then all hell broke loose...
The PVA glue didn't hold the floor tiles to the wooden base, so I had to remove them all. They left a thin, ugly layer of dried PVA glue that is very difficult to remove. I tried using a hot glue gun, but that's the worst kind of glue I've ever used. I don't like that at all. On top of that, the filler I use as texture warped the walls!!

So, feeling very down, I considered throwing away the project, but I had simply used to much time to just throw it away, so for the next set, I used extra support beams.

After that, I invited Rik for a game. Spamming flamers (on both sides) made the game short and boring.
I think playing a normal game of 40k on this board will be better, or maybe the "close quarter action" mission from the Games Workshop wesite.

Gamin on the table was perhaps what I needed to get my motivation going. I Continued building the tiles and I even made some details. Like this library.

Right now I'm working on the texture for the last tiles, and I have invited Rory for a game this weekend. See the battle report next time!!

Cheers!!

Zone Mortalis: Part 1

Are you like me and had a major Nerdgasm when you saw this picture released by Forge World?

Picture is a Forge World Copyright. Used without permission.

Rik know a guy who is a carpenter who was able to get me 9 plates in the same size as a Zone Mortalis board. I knew I had to make my own.

I just started with drawing the walls on the plates to get a sense of how I was going to make the board.

Actually, it don't have to be more complicated than this. Mons and I played a game or two on the board, and we had a blast!!

Although it worked just fine to play on with just the drawings, I'm not going to stop there. After a lot of thinking about which style I wanted to make my board, I settled for a dungeon table.

The first tile, the dungeon cells.

And here's the first Zone Mortalis set! I think I will make them 4 at a time. Now when the walls are done, I just have to work on the floor tiles, wall textures and details!

Feast your eyes, and keep a look out for more Zone Mortalis!

Cheers!
