Nurgle VS Nurgle Battle report

It's a sad day today, because last week I had an awesome game against Per-Kenneth, we took alot of pictures between the turns and had a nice day.
However, I forgot to wrtie down the events of the game, scoreboard, and we should have taken pictures after each PLAYER turn instead of game turn...
So, here are some of the hihglights of our 3000pts Nurgle VS Nurgle game!

The game was a narrative scenario, based on the sighting of a Herald who had been wandering the city ruins, spreading plague and nurglings all over. These little nurglings were to be the objectives for the chaos lords.

The gaming table is set up! Take a good look, because it's the last time you will see it. A lot of the terrain has been donated to a gaming club, and the board itself is getting a new paintjob to match with my other realm of battle. Anyway, we rolled for deployment and had to set up diagonally, which was a lot of fun! you got the feeling that you used more of the table in this way.

One major event in the game was PK's Nurgle bikers charging my gunline. Plaguemarines, Bikes, Plaguebearers, Beasts, Chaos Marines, Heralds, a lot of units joined the huge close combat. In the end, I managed to destroy the bikes and got the Chaos Marines on the run.

PK seems to have problem figuring out how to most effectively use his bikes. I showed him how!
After they had been used as weapon platforms behind the defence line, they zoomed out and put their meltaguns to good use. A land raider and a forgefiend was destroyed as a result.

We did our very best to get our Chaos Lords into a challenge! Being equipped with only a power sword, Lord Golesh failed to wound Lord Incineratus (who was clad in terminator armour!(Cheater! Proxy!)). Lord Incineratus put his Black Mace (more proxy!) into good use and almost killed Lord Golesh. A Plague Champion managed to perform a heroic intervention and gave his life for his lord. Very cowardly on Golesh's behalf, but what do you expect from a Chaos Lord?

Really intense game that ended 8-6 in my favour! Both chaos lords survived the game, and according to our agreement, they will then get to keep their chaos boons for our next game! Not bad, considering I got Eternal Warrior...

Now, time for sleep!

Cheers!

Battle Report: 3 way Free for all!

It's not very often I get to have a Saturday off work, but I got one and decided to invite my friends Helge and Rebecca for a game. The original plan was for a fourth man, Mikkel, to join and have a larger 4 way game, but work got in the way. So we decided to play a 3 way game, 1000pts each!

The rules are from the 5th ed rulebook, taken from memory.
Everyone got a "corner" each, with an objective in the middle. The player who held the centre objective on the last turn would be the victor.

We set up the table with a lot of terrain blocking line of sight.

Helge had by far the largest force with his Tyranids.

And I had by far the smallest, counting only 12 models from Cult Mechanicus.

Rebecca's Iron warriors, with a lvl 3 Sorcerer and a Chaos Lord in terminator armour.

Helge infiltrated his Genestealers very close to my deployment zone, ready to pounce!

TURN 1
Helge went first, moving up his Genestealers towards my force, and moving his main army towards Rebecca's lines.

The Kataphrons moves up and open fire on the Genestealers, taking down some of their numbers.

The Iron warriors opened fire on the Hormagaunts killing several of their numbers, meanwhile the predator managed to kill the Venomthrope, denying Helge his Shrouded save.
End of turn 1 - Battlefield overview

TURN 2
Since Helge went first in turn 1, he automatically went last in turn 2. Rebecca won the roll-off and went first.

The Iron Warriors continue to lay down heavy fire on the hormagaunts, now within better range!

The predator sniped a lone Datasmith that was stood on the wrong side of the ruin walls. Can you even see him at that distance?

The Kataphrons moved into better positions and eliminated the Xeno threat harassing them.

The Kastellan Robots opened fire on the Iron warriors, killing 4 of their legionnaires. The casualties put the Kataphron out of range though...

Losing his Genestealers, Helge now focussed his main force on Rebeccas Iron Warriors.

End of turn 2 - Overview

TURN 3
The roll-off was now between me and Helge. This time I got to go first!

The Kastellan Robots sniped the Hive Tyrant, killing all his Tyrant Guard and inflicting a wound on the beast.

Meanwhile the Kataphrons moved into position and took out several more Iron Warriors and Terminators.

The Hormagaunts are finally within range to charge the Iron Warriors! The lone survivor of the charge managed to cut down a nid before he was swarmed.

The Sorcerer and surviving squad opens fire on the Hormagaunts, while the predator blew the brains out on one of the Zoanthropes.

End turn 3 - Overview

TURN 4
Rebecca won the roll-off for turn 4, and quickly moved her figures away from the Hormagaunts!

The Terminators tried to hide from the overwhelming firepower of the Mechanicus, and ran straight into the Hive Tyrant!

To Rebecca's and my amusement, Helge failed the charge roll with the Tyrant, allowing me to take out a couple of more wounds of it with my Robots.

End of turn 4 - Overview

TURN 5
It was my turn to go first again, so I moved towards the objective, knowing the game would soon be over.

A bloody turn 5! The Robots killed the Hive Tyrant, while the Kataphrons killed the Carnifex AND destroyed the Predator.

Helge, also sensing the end drawing near, charged the Robots despite him knowing full well he couldn't hurt them. Rebecca just stood by the side, opening fire on the close combat.

End of turn 5 - Overview

TURN 6
Rebecca did the honour of rolling for a turn 6, and also managed to roll for going first!

No more mrs nice girl! Rebecca harassed us with some plasma fire...

...and managed to kill the las Zoanthrope!
However, with me being next, I moved up my servitors and blasted rebeccas last units to pieces. The Kastellan Robots smashed the last gaunts to pieces, leaving me alone on the table with the objective.

And only one casualty!

END GAME

Wow! That was a really fun game! We probably won't be playing this scenario again, as I belive it was designed for 5th edition and really doesn't translate well to 7th.
I don't regret trying this scenario though!

One of the best units in the game has to be the Predator. Sure, the Mechanicus dished out some serious firepower, but the predator had the best targets. Taking out the Venomthrope in turn one was essential, and the Datasmith in turn 2 was just plain mean!

Hopefully I get to have more awesome games like this in the future, and hopefully I'll remeber to take a lot of pictures!

Cheers!

Zarona Lost

It is time for yet another Battle report. This time my opponent was Jan-Øivind, fielding Uriel Ventris' 4th company of Ultramarines.

It's been several weeks since the Imperial Guard marched on the ruined manufactorum city on Zarona. 2 Platoons, several tank squadrons, support units, scouts and auxila units were deployed. Not a force for a full scale war, but enough to defend itself. The task force never reported back to HQ, and the lord general refused to send more troopers as they were engaged in an open rebellion in one of the larges hive cities on Zarona.

The Librarian of the 4th comapny was a strong telepath and had heard voices in the warp and the death screams of hundreds of men from the ruined manufactorum city. He approached his Captain, Uriel Ventris of the Ultramarines 4th company, who decided to act at once. Deploying more than half his company in drop pods, and had land raiders and rhinos dropped from thunderhawk transports, he found the Imperial guardsmen.

Turned from the light of the Emperor, walking corpses of Nurgle.
And their murderers not far behind - The Death Guard.

We decided to play Cloak and Shadows (on Øivinds request) and proceeded with setting up our forces. I choose side and set up objectives first, but he got the first turn.

The Ultramarines charges forward!

Turn 1

The Ultramarines charged forward, guns ablazing, but not doing any real damage. The walking corpses of the Imperial Guard was the first to feel the Marines wrath. The Death Guard answered in the same manner. A large cloaked figure made himself known as he flew towards the Imperial lines. Chanting in a forbidden language, he tried to open a portal to the warp, summoning children of nurgle. The walls of reality flickered and the figure was promised a reward for his loyalty - when the time was right.

The Lord and his Champion stands back to back as the Death Guard rushes to reinforce them.

Turn 2

As the armoured might of the Ultramarines charged forward, a drop pod crashed right behind enemy lines. The squad deployed lightning fast and brought their guns to bear on an exposed Rhino APC. The vehicle exploded so violently that it killed more Ultramarines than it did Death Guard. As the squad of Death Guard stumbled out of the Rhino, Uriel Ventris and his assault squads charged the exposed traitors. The Champion of the Death Guard shouted insults and issued a challenge. A brave sergeant answered and intended to bring down the traitor with his power fist. He punched the traitor in the abdomen, crushing his organs. To the sergeants horror, the champion stumbled, got back up and laughed as he brought his axe down in the sergeant. Captain Ventris and his marines cut down the traitors, but were unable to kill their Lord. As the Lord and his Champion stood back to back, prepared for their doom, Necrosius and a kill squad of Plague Marines joined the fray. Hordes of zombies were also moving forwards. The reinforcement was to much for the Ultramarines. In sheer terror, the assault marines fled from combat, leaving their captain alone and wounded.

Typhus and his bodyguards teleports onto the planet.

Turn 3

The gunline of Marines added their firepower to the assault and killed several daemonic machines. They even managed to take down the mysterious cloaked figure. As he crashed onto the sands, a hole inreality opened up and spewed forth a group of Plaguebearers. The death of the cloaked figure was what Nurgle was waiting for.
Ventris was blessed by the Emperor as he seemed impossible to kill! He still had some of his trusted battle brothers with him, and admist the melee he also saw the grim figure of the Company Chaplain killing the Death Guard Lord. The moment Ventris locked eyes with the Chaplain, a plague knife struck the chaplain in the gut. the wound began instantly to rot and fester, and the Chaplain died in horrible agony.
Ventris was now alone.
Meanwhile, behind the Ultramarines lines, reality flickered as Typhus himself teleported onto the sand of Zarona. Flanked by his Deathshroud, they moved in for the kill. His Liutenant, "The Grave Warden" used his ancient toxic weapon and killed a great score of marines, even the unfortunate librarian.

The Land Raider is destroyed, and its prescious cargo with it.

Turn 4

Uriel Ventris felt shame as he ran from battle to lick his wounds inside his Land Raider. The death guard ran after but failed to damage the huge tank. All around them, the Ultramarines were killing off the Death Guard. Infantry was being crushed, tanks destroyed, daemons banished!
The Grave Warden snuck up on the Ultramarines defensive positions and killed a support squad, a Obliterator sniped captain Ventris' Land Raider with a high energy weapon, setting the tank on fire. He had no choise but to leave the safety of his carrier. As he charged out the hatch, he was met by a kill squad of Death Guard, cutting him dow with his bolters.

The Marines hunt down the remaining Zombies.

Turn 5

The sight of their fallen captain filled the Ultramarines with rage! They rallied and sent in the Dreadnoughts, managing to kill the last of the obliterators. The zombies were unstoppable and destroyed everything the came in contact with. It seemed the Death Guard had lost the fight though, as zombies don't follow orders very well.

Typhus kills the last squad and activates his teleport homer.

Turn 6

As the Ultramarines started to secure the area, killing off the zombies, they found that their Captain was still alive and ordered his extraction. Necrosius made his prescence known and charged a squad  and wiped them out. Supported by the remainder of the kill squad, they secured a building and prepared to be teleported to Terminus Est.
Behind the Ultramarines lines, Typhus did the same. Having just killed the last of the support squads, he activated his teleport homer...

End Game

A real nail biter!! I really love the way 7th edition plays! Maelstrom of War is really fun as you get new orders each turn, and can claim victory points as you complete the objectives. We both were really lucky with our cards as well, drawing "Hold objective X" twice, scoring 2 points for the same objective. I got "Manifest a psychic power", and since I had already killed his Librarian, I actually managed to manifest 3 powers, earning D3 victory points!
I had spent a lot of points on my Lord, giving him the Murder Sword, and Uriel Ventris kept refusing the challenge! And seeing him running from combat was a blow to MY morale as well... I got him at last though. After we had calculated all the victory points, Øivind had 16, and I, not far behind, 13.

Winner: Ultramarines!

We decided to make this a campaign. Next time we will roll for a mission from the Altar of War book. We will roll for Space Marine missions, and if Øivind wins again he gets to choose the next mission. If he looses however, we will roll on the Chaos Space Marine missions.

Until next time!
Cheers!

The Knight Marches to War!

In what I like to think is a record time (personal record, mind you), I managed to finish my Imperial Chaos Knight in about a week. Since my friend Öivind was back in Norway for a quick visit, we decided to play a semi-large game. Since it's my house, it's my rules (and Öivinds approval), I played Chaos Space Marines with an allied Knight!

The completed Knight in all its glory! I wanted it to match my Death Guard, so I made up a story that the Death Guard found a Knight whos pilot had been killed by some disease. How fitting!
The Death Guard stole it, re-painted it and let one of their cultists pilot it.

But now, on to the battle report!

We played the Relic, with a diagonal set up. I rolled highest and forced Öivind to deploy on the hill, with as little cover as possible!

Öivind deployed his Ultramarines, Captain Uriel Ventris and an assault squad in the land raider, escorted by a devastator squad and dreadnought. on the far right he set up his second devastator squad, dreadnought and tactical squad. He kept an assault squad, tactical squad in drop pod and an empty drop pod in reserve.

I deployed my Death Guard in a similar manner. Obliterators on top of the building (which is VERY ugly by the way, will have to finish painting those), the Knight behind it, vindicator to roll through the buildings, and spawn in the front.

I had Typhus deploy alongside 20 plague Zombies.

Necrosius the Undying joined the 20-man Plague Marine squad. If something is going to survive a punishment, it's gonna be these guys!

Öivind deployed his drop pod, which scattered a bit behind. It turned out to be empty though. He opened fire on my obliterators, taking out a wound on one of them. The devastators on the right flank shot my Vindicator and managed to immobilize it. Great start!

In my turn I spread out my plaguemarines, ran forward with my Spawn and assaulted the drop pod with my zombies. Typhus had a small chance to destroy it, which he failed.
The knight opened fire on the land raider and dreadnought, inflicting a weapon destroyed on the dreadnought. Here's what I forgot during turn 1:

*To use Psychic powers.
*That I had Obliterators on the table.

In turn 2, Öivind proceeded with destroying my vindicator and getting first blood. He also managed to kill one of my Obliterators.

The zombies advanced around the drop pod, trying to sneak around the venerable dreadnought.

The Plague Marines advance and grab the Relic!

In turn 3 the Ultramarines sprung their trap! A Tactical squad landed with a drop pod, opening fire on the Plague Marines. The assault squad dropped near the second drop pod and opened fire as well, while Uriel Ventris and his squad disembarked from their Land Raider, ready to assault!

Ventris and Necrosius are locked in a duel! We both rolled quite poorly during this combat. I managed to kill more than Öivind, and thanks to Necrosius Warlord trait, Ventris failed his leadship test and had to flee.

The Knight punished Ventris by blasting his rapid-fire battle cannon on his squad. Only Ventris survived!

While Typhus was in combat with the assault squad, Necrosius assaulted the tactical squad. Ventris retreated back into his Land Raider, and the Dreadnought moved up to block the hatch.

The Knight managed to make a double charge and destroy both the Land Raider AND Dreadnought in one round of close combat! Ventris was doomed!

Ventris didn't go without a fight though! He charged Typhus and his squad of Zombies (actually only one zombie...). The Dreadnought smashed Typhus into a pulp, and that's when the Knight interfered. He cut down both Ventris and the Venerable on  the charge! Necrosius had at this point finished off the tactical squad and moved to claim the relic.

Öivind gave up after he had played his turn 6, since the outcome was obvious. Necrosius would claim the relic, and the Knight would destroy the last drop pod, for fun.

Victory Chaos Marines! 7-1

It's too bad that Knights aren't allowed in a Chaos Marine army, because it look awesome in mine!
I will definitely try more games using it.

Until next time!
Cheers!
